State Capitol Texas became a state in 1845. The current capitol building was completed in 1888. The structural exterior is "sunset granite" quarried just 50 miles away. In 1993 the underground extension north of the main building was completed. |

| Tribute to Texas Children Dedicated June 1998 ... the monument depicts six children on a field trip to the Texas State Capitol. School children in more than 600 Texas schools raised the funds necessary to ensure the success of the tribute, which honors and celebrates children everywhere. |

The small building on the left is the east entrance to the extension. In front and between the lamp posts is an underground openning to view three tiers of office windows.
