State Capitol:
New Jersey ratified the U.S. Constitution in 1787. It
was the third to do so; it was the first to ratify the
Bill of Rights in 1789.
The Capitol was constructed in 1792, had wings added and a
major repair after a fire in 1885 through 1911. In 1987,
a renovation project was begun.

Red Oak Tree
This ornamental item displays the state tree, Red Oak; the
state bird, Eastern Goldfinch; and the state fruit, the
Blueberry. There's more to it but this is all I remember.

The House Chamber
The House consists of 80 representatives. Representatives are
elected from 40 districts of basically equal in population.
Each district elects two representatives. A representative
must be 21 years of age, a resident of the district and a
state resident for at least two years.

The Senate Chamber
The Senate consists of 40 senators. One senator is elected from
each legistative district. A senator must be 30 years of
age, resident of the district and a resident of the state for
at least 4 years.

Thomas Edison State College
Thomas Edison State College was named in honor of
Thomas Alva Edison, the New Jersey inventor who gained
encyclopedic knowledge of many subject areas without
attending college classes. The college was established in 1972.
