State House:
Maryland was the 7th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution in
April 1788. This state house is the oldest in the nation still
in legislative use and the only state house to have served as
the Capitol of the United States (November 26, 1783 - August 13,
1784). On December 23, 1783 George Washington resigned his
commission before the Continental Congress and on January 14, 1784
the Treaty of Paris which marked the end of the Revolutionary
War was ratified here.

Roger Brooke Taney:
(March 17, 1777 - October 12, 1864)
Roger Taney was the 12th U.S. Attorney General and the
5th Chief Justice of the United States. While Chief Justice
the Dred Scott decision was the most notable. This decision
made slavery legal in all U.S. Territories.

Old Treasury Building :
The oldest building in Maryland was built between 1735 and 1737
and was the offices of the Commissioners for Emitting Bills of
Credit. The State restored it in 1949 and currently houses the
Research Center for Historic Annapolis Foundation.

Thurgood Marshall Memorial
Thurgood Marshall was born on July 2, 1908 and died January 24, 1993.
He was a Baltimore native and civil rights lawyer who reached the
pinnacle of the U.S. justice system. He was the first Marylander
since Roger Taney and the first African American
to serve on the Supreme Court.

House Chamber
The House of Delegates consists of 141 delegates elected from
47 districts. The Senate Chamber was closed for renovations;
it consists of 47 senators. |

Maryland's Federalist
(A Flagship for Maryland / Original: 1788 Recreated: 1988)
The Maryland Federalist was built in 1988 for Maryland's
commemoration of the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution.
She is a full-sized replica of the 15-foot ship. On May 1, 1788
Baltimore held a huge event to honor the ratification of the
constitution and the tiny Federalist was the centerpiece
of the event. |

Old Senate Chamber
This historic chamber has been restored to its 1783 appearance.
The mannequin of George Washington stands on the spot where
he delivered his resignation speech on Dec 23, 1783. From
November 26, 1783 to August 14, 1784 Annapolis was the capital
of the United States. The Continental Congress met in this
room. |
