Old State Capitol
This building is located in Iowa City. This was the capitol when Iowa became the 29th state in 1846. The capiital was moved to Des Moines in 1857. The Old State Capitol is now part of the University of Iowa, probably the main office. The University was founded in 1847 in this building. The University and State must have shared the same building for about 10 years.
State Capitol
The Capitol was dedicated in 1884 and completed in 1886. The dome is made of 23-karet gold. The gold leaf covering the dome is 1/250000 of an inch thick. The most recent re-gilding was completed in 1999.
Iowa Peace Officers Memorial
The three outer forms represent the three levels of law enforcement in Iowa. The equal spacing represents the equal sharing of responsibility for the safety of all. The circles represent the cooperation and fraternity between the agencies and departments. The three gray paths to the center represent the agencies and departments uniting to serve, sacrifice and mourn. The center pinnacle represents the service dedecation and sacrifice shared by each peace officer. The top of each outer form represents the aim of each peace officer with the goal of being just short of the ultimate action giving one's life, which is represented by the top of the center pinnacle.
Statue Of Liberty Replica
With the faith and courage of their forefathers who made possible the freedom of these United States. The Boy Scouts of America dedicate this replica of the Statue of Liberty as a pledge of everlasting fidelity and loyalty.

Liberty Bell Replica
The Liberty Bell Replicas presented to the states and territories have the same dimesions and tone as that of the original Liberty Bell when it rang out our independence in 1776. This bell is not cracked and may be rung; I rang it.
USS Iowa Model
A model of the battleship USS Iowa on loan from the US Navy. The battleship itself was sunk at Pearl Harber on Dec. 7, 1941.
Old Supreme Court :
The Supreme Court sessions were held here for over 120 years. In 2003 a new judicial building was completed. This room is now used as a committee room by the House of Representives.
House of Representatives
On the second monday of January the representatives begin the yearly session. It lasts for about 100 days. There are 100 representatives.
Senate Chambers
The State Senate session begins on the same day as the House of Representatives. There are 50 state senators.
State Law Library Stairway
The State Law Library occupies the second floor West Wing. It contains over 130,000 volumes. The library personnel and well as other Capitol empolyees are proud of the spiral staircases that access the four floors of books.
