as a global statesman. The house is located at 117 South Hervey Street in Hope, Arkansas.

Little Rock Central High School National Historical Site
Central High School National Historic Site in Little Rock was established by Congress in November, 1998.
It serves as a symbol of the national struggle over school desegregation. In 1957 President Eisenhower ordered 1200
U.S. Army troops into Little Rock to protect the civil rights of nine African American students attending the school
and to guard the campus. The President's action was in response to Governor Faubus' attempt to defy federal court
orders to allow the students to attend.
Recently built visitor center. A film on the integration of Little Rock Central High School is available inside,
as well as, other information on desegregation and the Civil Rights Movement in America.
The Central High Commemorative Garden, across the street from the front of the visitor center. Nine trees
and nine benches are in the park to honor the nine sturdents.
Across the street from one side of the visitor center is this historic Mobil gas station. In 1957 it served as
press headquarters. It was the visitor center prior to the completion of the new visitor center.
Little Rock Central High School, located diagonally across the intersection from the visitor center, is still
in use today. The school was built in 1927 and was at that time considered the most expensive, most beautiful
and largest high school in the nation.
