Sabine National Wildlife Refuge across the St. Joseph Lake from Cameron Prairie.
Along a mile long trail loop a side path goes to this observation deck.
Common gallinule - an elderly gentleman stated that when he was a youngster they'd
catch and dress out
several of these to add to some creole dish. It'd take several, there's not
much underneath the feathers.

Going from the one side of St. Joseph's Lake to the other side a state highway goes
along the shore of the
Gulf of Mexico. At this little spot just off the highway, pelicans congregrate for a
convention.
Several years ago I stopped at Holly Beach, La; it had at that time maybe 30 or
more homes and a church or
two. After a hurricane in 2006(?) there are now only a handful of homes and
this is what remains of one church.
