La Crosse, Ws - A city park along the river where an island, a little ways
from the bank, provides a nice location for boathouses.

Prairie du Chien (Prairie of the Dog) - in the late 1700's was recognized
as an important fur trading gathering point. Hercules Dousman arrived here in the
early 1800's as a representative of the American Fur Company. His descendants built
this mansion in 1870.

Black Hawk (Ma-ka-tai-she-kia-kiak (Black Sparrow Hawk))
Some Sauk chiefs signed a treaty in 1804 with the United States. Black Hawk and a few
other Sauk chiefs did not believe the treaty was valid. This led to the Black Hawk
War in 1832, a Sauk defeat and his being sent to a reservation. In 1833 he dictated
his autobiography.

Wisconsin farm near Bagley

Nelson Dewey Home - Dewey was the first governor of Wisconsin. This home
is on his original estate. It is now part of the Nelson Dewey State Park.
