Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers' Confluence as viewed from the visitors
center at Prescott, Ws. The St. Croix river is on the near side, goes north and
is the most of the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Mississippi north
of here is totally inside of Minnesota.

Lake Pepin is part of the Mississippi and was formed by glacier activity.
Wisconsin Highway 35 goes along it eastern shore. William Cullen Bryant, a poet of
the 1800's, was a great admirer of this area and stated that all poets and painters
should visit it during the summer.

Maiden Rock near the shores of Lake Pepin. Legend has it that a young
Souix maiden was forced to marry someone she despised, minutes after the ceremony
she disappeared. The next morning her body was found at the foot of the bluff;
it was believed she leapt to her death.

Laura Ingalls Wilder memorial was spotted in a small town of Pepin. She
was born a few miles from here; at the age of 65 she wrote "Little House in the Big
Woods", the first of her series of eight books.

Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refugee on the eastern side
of the river. An inlet view with Canada geese, Swans and other water fowl.

Alma, Ws - another small town built along the base and on a bluff. A
common practice in this area of the country.
